Sven Yrvind sets sail towards New Zealand

Posted: 30 May 2018, 12:00 by FollowMyChallenge

The 79-year-old Swedish boat builder Sven Yrvind has built and sailed small boats for almost 60 years.
Today he left the harbour of Dingle, Ireland, to sail to Dunedin, New Zealand, in his small boat called 'Exlex'.

Exlex is only 5.76 meters long and a little over 1 meter wide. It was built using 4 cm thick Divinycell sheets and NM epoxy. With an average speed of 2 knots, the non-stop trip of 15,000 nautical miles will take around 300 days. Sven will be 80 when he arrives!
